Salary: $65,000 per annum plus accommodation, electricity and internet.
Islamic Society of Palmerston Inc. (ISP) is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Imam, Palmerston Islamic Centre (PIC).
ISP is an incorporated not-for-profit organization that manages the PIC on behalf of the local community. This position will be responsible for conducting five prayers daily, Friday ‘Khutbah’ and prayer, teaching Quran and Islamic education to children, and conducting other religious activities as requested in the center.
This position is initially for one year; however, will be extended further with mutual agreement of ISP and the incumbent.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead Five times prayers daily.
- Organize, prepare and lead Quran classes and memorization for kids/adults (if any) between ‘Maghrib’ to ‘Isha’ from Monday to Thursday every week.
- Conduct Maktab sessions every Saturday.
- Conduct Friday khutbah and prayer.
- Represent ISP (and/or local community) at various forums, including Government or non-Government organizations as and when required.
ISP has the right to change the above duties from time to time to meet the needs of the local Islamic community.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Qualification as ‘Alim’.
- Knowledgeable in the deen (Quran, Tafseer, Fiqh, Hadith etc.).
- Recite Quran with proper pronunciation and ‘tajweed’.
- Able to teach Quran, Arabic, and Islamic education to children.
- Able to lead daily prayers and Friday ‘khutbah’.
- Be respectful to everyone regardless of one’s age, ethnicity, and background. Acknowledge diversity within local community and show no inclination towards a specific group, ethnicity, or nationality.
- Practice the Quran and Sunnah without political, social, ethical, or spiritual divisions without alignment with any specific school of thought.
- Able to communicate fluently in English.
- Have or are eligible to obtain Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Have or able to obtain working with children clearance (OCHRE Card).
- Able to provide two recent references.
DESIRABLE:
- Hafiz in Quran.
- Experience in leading ‘Taraweeh’ Prayers during the month of ‘Ramadan’.
- Previous experience teaching kids.
